Drupal Icons
Tremendous thanks to Anton Zykin of Softfacade for his volunteer efforts to create a set of GPL'd icons for Drupal (attached).
Anton is not part of the Drupal community, but went out of his way to help to get more recognition as icon designer. Let's all recognize his work and thank him for the contributions he's made. Thanks so much Anton and Softfacade.
The suite may not be full, but we have a direction and source files to work form.

You also have the lovely Silk icons, without the naming scheme and open source spirit of Tango.
I think if Drupal were to use icons (which it should, at least as a contrib module), it shouldn't sprinkle them around like sugar on an apple pie. Too many icons will work against its purpose and only cause confusion. Like with everything else in Drupal, we want to avoid crust.. ehm, i mean cruft. Solar Power Training

I would be inclined to say that a Drupal would benefit a lot from having its own dedicated icon set. I've tried to repurpose things like Santa Letter the Tango icons in the past, and don't find them all that well suited to very small web icons. As a result, I'm already working on some basic Drupal icons for a couple of themes I hope to contribute.
I also would be very pleased to offer time to help out here. As well as having some vector design skills, I could contribute to usability discussion/development.

Hey, there is still a lot of discussion. I like Roy's "but, does it need an icon at all?". Which applies to a whole lot of functionality, if you think something needs it you should post it here and there is a gsoc project on this. wow gold
